The G7 Leaders’ Summit takes place in Évian-les-Bains from 15 to 17 June 2026. There, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States, as well as the European Union, will seek to draw up a common understanding of the situation and set out common, cooperative responses to their shared challenges in a particularly volatile and uncertain international context, marked by increased conflict, deepening economic imbalances, weakened global governance and reduced financing for official development assistance.
Created on France’s initiative in 1975 in response to the first oil crisis, the G7 set up a dialogue framework to resolve crises, while reiterating the principles of democracy, economic prosperity and international cooperation. These remain fundamental to the group’s joint work.
France aims to ensure its G7 Presidency is one of convergence and real action to address the major challenges of our time, as well as geopolitical crises. To reshape essential cooperation, France has invited Brazil, Egypt, India, Kenya and the Republic of Korea to take part in the Évian Summit. These partner countries have been actively contributing to the Summit’s preparatory discussions since the beginning of the year.
- CREATING THE CONDITIONS FOR BALANCED, SUSTAINABLE AND SHARED GROWTH
In a highly volatile economic and financial international environment, France and its partners will work in Evian to reduce excessive macroeconomic imbalances in a cooperative, coordinated manner and obtain concrete joint commitments. Predatory competition, industrial overcapacity, under-investment, overindebtedness and deregulation are all imbalances that threaten the economic prosperity and stability of nations, foster protectionist tendencies to the detriment of all and sow the seeds of financial, economic and geopolitical crises.
2. BUILDING NEW CONSENSUS ON INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY
During its G7 Presidency, France intends to promote new consensus on fairer, more effective, better coordinated international partnerships. This new consensus on the goals and scope of our solidarity policy will be based on streamlining instruments and demonstrating the effectiveness of the work undertaken using a mutually beneficial approach. The G7 and partner countries will work to increase the complementarity of their work in developing countries in order to improve the concrete impacts of assistance and support policies.
3. STRENGTHENING CRITICAL MINERAL VALUE CHAINS
The boom in renewable energies and digital technologies has increased the dependence of our technologies on growing quantities and varieties of critical metals and rare minerals, which are essential for producing low-carbon technologies, batteries, semi-conductors and digital equipment.
A limited number of players now hold a dominant position in this strategic sector, as they control the entire value chain, from extraction and refining to industrial processing. Against this backdrop, France wants to encourage the diversification of supply chains and strengthen critical mineral value chains from industrial, financing, trade, traceability and transparency, storage and recycling perspectives.
By working with its G7 partners, France wants to create mutually beneficial partnerships and ensure greater security for the supply of essential resources.
4. PROTECTING CHILDREN ONLINE
Protecting children online is a shared priority for G7 Member States. Following on from the AI Action Summit held in Paris in 2025, the Heads of State and Government will discuss several initiatives designed to better protect children when using digital platforms.
5. FIGHTING DRUG TRAFFICKING
Fighting illegal flows is a joint objective of the G7 countries. It is based around fighting organized crime, particularly drug trafficking and the financing of terrorism. As ports are a major entryway for drugs into the territories of the G7 countries, the G7 must commit further to securing ports and ensuring greater international coordination in that area.
6. FIGHTING CANCER
For the first time since the G7 was created, the fight against cancer will be a priority of the Leaders’ Summit. France wants to work with its partners to reduce mortality and increase life expectancy for people with cancer. France’s ambition is to support research and share data between G7 countries, as well as to maintain numerical, long-term targets.
7. DISCUSSING GEOPOLITICAL CRISES
Discussions will be focused in particular on the war in Ukraine and the conflict in the Middle East. Regarding Ukraine, this will involve forging convergence to continue support for Ukraine and achieve a solid and lasting peace, providing clarity for Ukraine and Europe concerning their future security. Regarding the Middle East, discussions will focus on restoring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the conditions for lasting stability in the region.
